Englisch-Leistungskurs nimmt an UNO-Simulation teil
Anfang Mai 2007 nahm der Großteil des Englisch-Leistungskurses an der UNO-Simulation MUNOL (Model United Nations of Lübeck) teil. Vor der Konferenz hatten alle Teilnehmer sowohl ein Land als auch ein bestimmtes Komitee zugewiesen bekommen und mussten sich mit z.T. sehr speziellen Fragestellungen auseinandersetzen, um eine Resolution zu verfassen, z.B. welche Haltung nimmt Trinidad und Tobago zu Guantanamo ein oder was sagen die Niederlande zum Thema Überfischung der Ozeane?
Über diese und andere Themen wurde dann eine knappe Woche lang in Lübeck debattiert und am Ende wurden in der Vollversammlung zahlreiche Resolutionen verabschiedet, die dann anschließend zum UNO-Hauptquartier nach New York geschickt wurden.
Da die über 300 Munol-Teilnehmer von Schulen aus ganz Europa kamen, war es selbstverständlich, dass nicht nur während der Debatten, sondern auch in der Freizeit Englisch gesprochen wurde - wann hat man sonst schon die Gelegenheit, so viele internationale Kontakte in so kurzer Zeit zu knüpfen? Als die Woche vorbei war, kam dann auch ein wenig Wehmut auf, gepaart mit dem festen Willen, im nächsten Jahr wieder mit dabei zu sein und bis dahin vielleicht sogar an anderen MUN in Europa teilzunehmen. 2 pm in the afternoon, eleven pupils meet at platform 5, Central Station, Hamburg with their teacher Mrs Maibaum and Colette, the Australian language assistant. No one really knows what to expect- they are on the way to Lübeck to take part in the MUN of Lübeck called "MUNOL".
Model United Nation (short MUN) shows how the UN works. Every pupil represents a country in a committee. You're just allowed to take place in this simulation if you are formally dressed, talk English, and don't forget your badge. And please be in time - otherwise there will be bad sanctions J
In retrospect MUNOL was one of my greatest experiences and it really can't be described in words. It was a week full of fun, new friends, new countries, very much English and last but not least the parties.
Well, after I had realized that standing in front of my committee didn't let me die, the whole week was really relaxed and enjoyable. There were also lots of activities for al MUNOL participants in the evening- never forget: OHANA, Finnigans, Parkhaus or Riverboat..
For our school it was the first time at MUNOL, but hopefully there will be some more and next time we will come with more than just 11 pupils!
Once again this week really can't be described in words. You have to take part in it to really feel the MUNOLiscious spirit...
